It is a good thing we had to wait four days for the inspector who could separate the kids to come back to town. It gave Jeff and I four days to think about our decision, four days to get more information on Cystic Fibrosis and four days to realize that we made the wrong choice.
I had to get my fears out of the way before I could hear my heart. When I finally did hear my heart, it was telling me that he is mine and I want him, no matter what. I had a sneaking suspicion I had made the wrong choice when I cried for two days after leaving him, I was too afraid to admit it, even to myself.
When I told Jeff I thought perhaps we had made the wrong decision. He simply said, "I know." What a great man I am married to.
The decision to adopt Zhenya, brought the peace I had been longing for.
In the car ride to the Dr.'s today, Jeff asked me if there is anything they could tell us that would make me not want to adopt him. I said, "Unless he is dying next week, No." He agreed.
When we walked into the Dr.'s office, Zhenya was there. When I saw him, peace filled my heart and I knew we had made the right decision.
The Dr. was a heart specialist, so not very helpful with CF, but she did an ECHO and said his heart is fine, just a small defect. She said he doesn't need medicine or surgery for it. So according to her, he isn't dying any day from a heart problem, which is contrary to what the director said. We won't know the full extent about his CF, until we get home and go to a specialist. We have done all we can to get answers here.
I am still scared. Scared of the future, scared of the unknown, but the underlying peace I feel sustains me. I made the decision to leave him out of fear and now with faith and trust in Heavenly Father we make this one. Zhenya is going to be ours!!!!
Sara was so happy when we came home and told her. She jumped up and down. Lena said, "You are happy now, wait till you have to take care of him." Sara said, "I don't care, I will love it." I believe her too. She has such a big heart. Hopefully, practical Lena, will learn to love him too. I think she might find it impossible not to. He is such a cute little dude.
The last 5 months, since my car accident, have left me with an absolute belief in miracles. I was telling Jeff today how amazing it is, that I am here in Ukraine without any health problems. Maybe there is a miracle in store for my sweet Zhenya, but if not, he will be loved and cared for by his forever family.
Thanks for all of the prayers and thoughts that have come our way this week. We have felt so loved and cared about. We love you all!
