Waiting For Monday

The highlight of our day is getting Alina. We usually spend most of the day in the apartment. It is freezing outside. We have to seriously bundle up when we go out. Good advice about the layers.

We have fun cooking together. Alina tells us her favorite foods and Lena and I do our best to cook it. Lena and Alina are best buds. Poor Sara. We worried this might happen.
Alina's favorite salad. It's actually pretty good.
Alina likes to help, but we have to teach her everything. She has never even used a cheese grater. I forgot how much I had to teach the girls. It is amazing how far they have come.
Sara and I trying to light our gas oven. Lena ran. She was afraid we were going to blow her up. Christy gave us advice via Skype. She stayed in this apartment before. Thanks Christy! It was a success.

The girls draw and paint. Alina loves to show me her art work. I tell her good job and give her a hug. I know when she wants a hug because she stands in front of me and smiles. She smiles even bigger when I realize and hug her.
This is for Mom R. That nasty smelling tube stuff. It smells even worse than I remember. Sara won't touch it now, but Alina and Lena love it.

Alina is always cold. We took her to buy gloves and a sweater or sweatshirt at the outside market. I thought she was like Lena and would pick out some fashionable sweater. Nope she picked out a pink dragon sweatshirt. It is pretty hilarious. She was so excited about it we couldn't resist. We had her pegged wrong.

  1. So, just what is IN Alina's favorite salad? It look suspiciously a lot like....beets!
How fun. It's like you're building your own Young Women's group. And you fit right in with them from all appearances.
It was so good to talk to you yesterday. Tell the girls I'm sorry I interrupted their movie.
Brrr...I get cold just reading your posts. Perhaps you all need dragon sweatshirts? I wonder if you could find one for Jeff too? Stay warm, stay safe and of course....keep blogging!

    1. Yep beets, carrots, pickles and onions. I was pleasantly surprised. But if you don't like beets, well then.

Everywhere I go here I have memories of you. Seems like I will walk around the corner and run into you. But I never do :(

  3. LOL I'm the same way with Ira. Once I think I have her fashion tastes figured out she goes and throws me off by going with something totally non-matching. Go figure. I'm glad you're finding ways to stay warm though. I've never been as cold as I was there. :)

  4. I just caught up on your blog today - talk about bringing back memories! You have a tough decision to make about the brother - I still think about how I would do things differently with Katya's brother. I know how excited you were for a little boy so I hope things work out in a way that you can be at peace with :)

    1. Hi Ann! All the kids are asking about Katya. Maybe you could email me some pictures and I can show them, or if she wants to talk to anyone here? That one girl keeps asking about her. I don't like her much based on what my girls say. She sounds like a bully, especially to Katya. Wonder what she would say? Show her my blog and ask her.

  6. I give the dragon sweater a year. She'll see what everyone else is wearing and with Lena as her guide she'll soon be burning dragon sweaters : ) kidding that's just my kiddo's. Love the post with the girls at their orphanage! I agree with Mary that should be a book - I'm glad everyone was so rewarded in the end! Loved seeing Alina is already part of the family. Hugs to everyone!

  8. Alina is already looking SO much happier that some of the pictures you took when you first got there. She's such a pretty girl. The more time she spends with your family, the more smiles she'll keep putting on. Good thing you've been through this before so you know how to read these motions you're going through. The sweatshirt is adorable. She'll be Americanized before long, so enjoy that sweet innocence while is lasts. It's great that Lena and Alina are getting along so well. Is Sara asking if you can adopt another little sister for her to bring home? lol! Eliza sometime asks if we can go to Ukraine and adopt her a younger sister, as if it's as simple as going to Walmart for a loaf of bread.

Thanks for being so diligent in your postings. It's so fun to live your experiences through your daily updates. It's very interesting how the Lord has guided you from that point way back in 2008 when you were just thinking about hosting, to this point now of having 3 daughters. 3 TEENAGE daughters, no less. (Poor Jeff!) God bless you guys.

  10. Amen to Andreas, THANKS for posting. You are AWESOME. Your girls look like true sisters and I can see your home being a modern day Little Women! I am so happy that things are going so well We are anxious to see what happens on Monday. Good luck on the long and bumpy road to Krivy Rog (I think that is the name of the city.) They have a Mcdonalds there.
