We picked up Cheri Monday afternoon then took a train that night back to Will's town. We arrived Tuesday morning and went to Will's orphanage. He was happy to come with us, but kept asking if he could bring his friends too. We had to get him dressed in our clothes, he was embarrassed and told us all to look away. It was hilarious. His caretakers and the director cried when they hugged him goodbye, but he was all smiles. I was so relieved he wanted to come.
Zhenya had only met Alina once before, so I was super surprised when he ran and gave her a huge hug. He held onto her legs and wouldn't let go. She was surprised too, but she loved it.

He stayed by her and kept hugging her legs as she introduced everyone to her little brother. It was super cute. He told her he loved her and she was beautiful. What a sweet kid.
Alina bid a very tearful goodbye to her best friend and teachers. They cried and she cried but in the end she came with us. I put my arm around her in the car as she cried all the way back to Dnipro where we caught the night train, back to Kiev. Both kids were super excited to ride the train and even Alina was laughing and smiling by the time we were on our way back to Kiev.
On the car ride to Alina's orphanage Zhenya kept asking to go back to his orphanage. We kept telling him he couldn't but didn't know why he wanted to. He started saying it again at Alina's orphanage so we finally asked him why he wanted to go back, he said, "Because they have a toilet."
We laughed so hard but didn't realize he still had to go to the bathroom. He asked an older worker at Alina's orphanage if they had a bathroom and she showed him. I went in to see if he was ok and he had fallen in the toilet because it didn't have a seat. This is me dying lauging with my head out the door so he wouldn't know. He so embarrassed. Rough bathroom day for Zhenya.
What a funny post. Sorry that you got Pee'd on. What a crazy first day. So glad the orphanage departures went so well. I had pictured all kinds of scenarios. YAY you are on your way home!!!!
ReplyDeleteAlina's best friend must be new, cause she doesn't look familiar, and the orphanage floor also looks new. I can' wait to see your pictures of anyone else there. What color is Irina's hair these days?
Just wait until Will sees your toilet at home, he will think he has died and gone to potty heaven!! Can't wait to see you at the airport. Spencer is so excited he is about ready to wet his pants.
You look so happy and so does your kids! I'm so glad things have gone smoothly so far. You gotta love the boys! That is why I always make John take the boy to the bathroom when we are away from home.
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh! How funny! Poor little Will. You are officially initiated into the mom of a little boy club. I'm pretty sure we've all been peed on. lol! I've been waiting anxiously for this post and it didn't disappoint. Sure looks like Alina loves her dragon sweatshirt. So cute! I feel bad that she's so sad about leaving her best friend. What a grown up decision she made! Pretty amazing. Will looks so happy! What beautiful children! I can't wait to meet them. It was fun to see Cheri's cute face too. Hi Cheri! I hope you have a wonderful time with your kiddos for your last days in Ukraine. Do you come home on the 14th still or is it earlier now? Shelby
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad that you finally posted. I was so worried about the pickup of the kids. I'm so happy that all went well. You should write a book about a child's experiences when they are adopted. They must have a bucketful of emotions. I can't wait to see you all at the airport. Love Mom

ReplyDeleteAhh...so cute! Wish I could have stayed longer. Will seems like he has a very sweet side. It probably made leaving for Alina a little bit easier. Im anxious to hear whether you got the stinky feet taken care of.
ReplyDeleteSounds like you're in for a bunch of surprised Ame.Ready for a continuous adventure?!
Cheri looks amazing after a plane ride and night train, all within 24 hours!
As always, a heart-warming post that made me smile. How sweet your new kids are! And your boy will keep you laughing always...speaking from someone who's had 2. Never ending surprises with boys!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing.
So sweet! Can't wait till you are back! They are darling & beautiful Amy! What a journey! Wahoo you did it, just a little longer till you are home:)
ReplyDeleteJust an up-date on the neighborhood: Been noticing some crazy guy walking around the sidewalks moaning & crying- strange huh? Well turns out it's was Jeff. We are all trying to be supportive & understanding, but it's getting a little home. Come home soon!!! He's lost without you- ha ha;)
Less than a week, right??? Hooray!!!
getting a little "old" is what I meant to say;)
ReplyDeleteVitaliy came home and reminded me that we did meet Alina's best friend (Sneeze yana Yawn chinka) and sure enough here is a link that we posted on our blog of her. http://hinksonfamilycircle.blogspot.com/2010/05/more-kids-at-orphanage.html
ReplyDeleteShe wasn't Alina's best friend then that I remember, it was Luba and Anya who were her best friends. They have all grown up. I wonder about the rest of them often.
So very exciting! Congratulations!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on all of it! You're in the home stretch now!
ReplyDeleteI'm so happy for you! And glad you could laugh through a day of bathroom antics! None of my kids ever wanted to use a toilet, you are lucking he won't be peeing on every tree in your yard!! It took us a month to convince the kids they couldn't go to the bathroom outside! Glad everyone looks well, and Will was darling about you and his sister. Oh, and having three sisters! What a little love.
ReplyDeletehugs
Ha!! I am laughing out loud. I was pee'd on by Austin the first time I changed his diaper so you have been "baptised/sprinkled" like the rest of us!
ReplyDeleteI love this quote:
"A mother of boys works from son up to son down!"
I hope Kiev is going smoothly. Sorry, I'm so late getting to your blog. I was stuck in New York for a little bit. Joy.
Please update with your arriving arrangements. I can get into the gate if you need help - just let me know and I'll flash my JB badge!
Can't wait to see you!
AMY, you are amazing! I am so excited for you and getting to be a wonderful mom to two more lucky kids. I really am so happy for you. Good luck, hope all goes well the next few days and that you all travel home safe and sound.
