Germany

Sorry for not updating sooner mom. I did make it to Germany. I was going to blog earlier this week but I got the flu and it knocked me out for a few days.

Diane has been taking care of me and her sick kids. We have our own Florence Nightingale. Bless her forever for saving my life this week. Chase got it first and then Reagan, Logan and I all got it on the same day. This morning her husband woke up sick. Poor poor Diane. Hopefully she earned herself a pass this time.

Despite the flu scourge, Germany is a wonderful break from Ukraine. It is so good to see my dear friend Diane. I have missed her and her kids tons since they moved out of our neighborhood a year and a half ago.

Mary is coming today, and then she will go back to Ukraine with Lena and I on Sunday. Diane and I keep hoping she won't get a flu souvenir to take to Ukraine with her.

Jeff and Sara are home and Lena and I are so jealous.

Cute Chase

  1. Amy, I'm so sorry you have been sick, but so glad you made it to Germany. Give Diane a hug for me, for taking such good care of you. How much longer do you think you will have to be in the Ukraine? How does Diane like it in Germany? It's wonderful that you have been able to visit with them. Love, Mom

  3. Amy, OH YUCK that you have the FLU. Sure hope it is the short lived kind. It is kind of a miracle that you haven't caught something before now with all the bugs that have to be swarming around Ukraine. I guess that is one good thing about the cold, it freezes everything. I hope you get to see some of the beauty of Germany. It is one of the places that I could bear to live outside of the US. I hope you aren't too sick to enjoy it. Glad Mary is almost there and I hope you have a smooth process all the rest of the way. You sure deserve it. We cannot wait to see you and your new children at the airport.
    Lots of Love

  5. Mary's probably there now. Hope she doesn't pick up the flu too. Tell Lena to try and exhale only when she breathes. ;) Hope you feel better soon and that you get to have some fun in Germany. I've been wondering if you made it. Glad you did! Shelby

  6. I'm so sorry you've been sick! I was terrified of getting sick while I was out there. So much so that I had my own little pharmacy. I took lots of herbs and all kinds of things to keep us healthy while we were gone. After we'd been there about a month I finally calmed down a little and backed off on taking everything. I just hate being sick and especially when I'm not by MY bathroom and MY bed. I hope you're feeling better!

  7. Dang. Being sick is bad enough at home. Sorry to hear but the good news is you can throw up in your friends clean toilets and not at the orphanage! (Just the thought of that made me gag and mock dry heave!)
By now Mary should be there. "Hi Mary!"
While waiting for hours on end for our flight home Sunday, I was wandering around the airport and I got your email about not needing me to come. As I was headed back to tell James, guess what I found? Ukraine Bounty Bars! (The one thing James asked me to bring home to him if I went.) Funny huh? LAX has a pretty impressive chocolate store with chocolate from all over the world.
I guess your Jeff and Sara got home the same night and time as we did but I didn't know until later or I would have tried to find them and welcome them home!
Hope you're feeling better and enjoying all that German food. I've never been but I went to "Little Germany" when I was in junior high and remember the food being very good. Oh wait! I have been in Germany. The Frankfurt airport twice. Once running in my dumb black boots with 8K shoved in my sock - knocking my ankle out of alignment - rushing to our connection to Ukraine and the second time with Alex - where he learned that Germany will not take Ukraine Grivina. Sure hope you see more and enjoy more than I did.
Post pictures, write lots, and let us know when you'll be home!
    Love,
    ~W
